Privacyverklaring Dapper Connect

Laatst bijgewerkt: 29 september 2026

1. Wie is verantwoordelijk

Dapper Motor (Haarlem, Nederland, KvK 30282798)

  • Routes berekent onze eigen routeserver in Nederland.

Geweigerd, verlopen of ingetrokken: 90 dagen daarna gewist.

Privacy policy Dapper Connect

Last updated: 29 September 2026

For the webshop privacy policy, see the Privacy Policy. This is an English translation; if it differs from the Dutch text above, the Dutch text prevails.

1. Who is responsible

Dapper Motor (Haarlem, the Netherlands, Chamber of Commerce 30282798)

is the controller of the data in the Dapper Connect app.

Contact: info@dappermotor.com

The app is meant for riders aged 16 and over, as the terms of use also say. We do not knowingly process data of younger children.

2. What data we process

  • Account: name, email address, password (stored encrypted), whether you confirmed your email address, and which version of the app you last used and whether that was on iOS or Android.
  • Profile and garage: what you enter yourself (bio, region, motorcycles, photos, maintenance, tyre measurements). Sharing with the community is always a separate, deliberate choice per motorcycle and per item.
  • Dapper Dash: if you pair a Dapper Dash, we store which display belongs to you and which software runs on it. The wifi details for updates stay on your phone.
  • Rides and location: your location while you use navigation and ride recording, including route, speed and altitude. During an active ride also in the background, so navigation keeps running with the screen off. Never location without active use.
  • Community and riding together: if you share a motorcycle in the community garage, other riders see that motorcycle and only the profile details you switch on per item. Riders who share nothing are called "Dapper rider". Every rider does get a fixed pseudonym, so you can report or block someone without knowing their name. Invitations to ride together, the chat that goes with them, your contacts and planned rides (date, time, place) are stored on our own server.
  • Home area: if you switch it on, we only store a square of about 5 by 5 km, never your address or coordinates. Other riders see at most a distance band (for example 10 to 25 km), and only if you both share your area.
  • Dapper Mate: your first name is visible to channel members. Voice runs in real time through our own server and is not recorded or stored. We do store blocks and abuse reports. On iPhone the app registers a device code with Apple, so a channel can wake you when another member talks.
  • Live position during a group ride: if the lead rider shares a route in a Mate channel and you follow it, the other participants see your position, heading and speed live on the map, about every three seconds. This only happens during such a shared ride, only within that channel, and we do not store those positions. It stops as soon as you leave the navigation or the channel.
  • Invitations: if you share your invitation link or QR code, whoever opens it sees your name as you share it with contacts. If you invite someone by email address, Brevo sends that email. We do not store the address itself: only an encrypted fingerprint (a hash), to prevent duplicate emails and to link the invitation when that person signs up, plus a masked hint (such as r***@gmail.com) that only you see. After 30 days the fingerprint and hint are deleted. If the address has no account, the recipient gets at most one email per 30 days, without any text from you, with a link to unsubscribe. If you install the app on Android through an invitation link, the app reads once through Google Play which link that was.
  • Map and address search: the map and address search come from Stadia Maps, through their European servers. See chapter 4 for what they get to see. Map tiles you have already viewed are kept on your device (at most about 80 MB), so the same area is not loaded again and again.
  • Map key: the key the app uses to fetch maps from Stadia Maps is fetched from our server after you log in. It is then kept in the secure storage of your device (the Keychain on iPhone) and removed when you log out or delete your account.
  • Usage counter: the app counts per day how many map tiles and searches it fetches from Stadia Maps, because we pay for each one. Those daily totals go to our server once a day, with a random id per installation. We do not store them with your account and they contain no location, only numbers.
  • Navigation voice: we generate the default voice Alex on our own server in the Netherlands. The instructions of your route (for example "in 300 metres turn right, Hoofdstraat") therefore go to that server, which turns them into speech. We store those sentences without any link to your account, in a shared cache; a sentence that has not been used for 60 days is deleted. On your phone the app keeps the sentences until you log out or delete your account (and there too a sentence is deleted after 60 days without use). Nothing goes to an external party. Alex only speaks Dutch. If you choose the Apple or Android voice in the app, or use the app in another language, your device creates the instructions itself and they stay on your phone.
  • Orders: name, delivery address, order and payment status, through our webshop systems (Medusa) and payment provider Mollie; see also the webshop privacy policy. When you log in to the app, the app automatically creates a customer account in our webshop with your name and email address, so you can order in the app. When you enter your address, the app looks up street and town from your postcode.
  • Usage data: which features are used, such as logging in, starting a ride, creating a channel or opening the shop. Cookieless, without a profile and not traceable to you; we only send the event itself, never your name, email address or destination. Your IP address is sent along, so Umami can derive country, region and town from it. Umami does not store the IP address itself.
  • Crash reports: if something crashes, we send the type of error, the technical stack trace, the screen you were on, your device model, the version of your operating system and the app version. This happens automatically, so we see problems without you having to report them. Email addresses, access keys and coordinates are filtered out beforehand.
  • Feedback: your message plus technical context (app version, device, operating system, active screen, audio route/headset name and recent diagnostic lines), and a screenshot if you add one yourself. No location. The app shows you beforehand exactly what is sent. Feedback is not public: only our team sees it. The screenshot is kept protected on our server, not behind a public link.

What you must provide. Name, email address and password are needed to create an account; without them you cannot use the app. Your location is only needed for navigation and ride recording. Everything else is optional.

3. Why (purposes and legal bases)

  • Providing the service (performance of the contract): account, garage, navigation, Mate, riding together, chat, shop.
  • Sharing with the community (consent): your motorcycle, your profile details and your home area are only visible if you switch that on yourself. You can always switch it off.
  • Improving the service: the app is free; in return we learn from (anonymised) use and from feedback. If you switch off the toggle under Account > Privacy & data, both the use of your ride data and the measuring of your app use stop (consent, which you can withdraw at any time).
  • Fixing problems (legitimate interest): automatic crash reports, so we see a crash and can fix it before more riders run into it.
  • Invitations by email (legitimate interest): the rider who invites knows the address and chooses to do so. We send one short email, do not store the address and unsubscribing takes one click.
  • Safety and fighting abuse (legitimate interest): blocks, reports and suspensions. If you report someone, we keep the last twenty chat messages between you as evidence.
  • Legal obligations: such as the obligation to keep invoices.

Automatic suspension. If three different riders report the same person within 30 days, our system suspends that account automatically. One of us then reviews the reports. If you disagree with a suspension, email info@dappermotor.com and a person will review your case again.

We do not use your data for advertising tracking and never sell it.

4. Where your data is and who we share it with

Our own servers

  • Account, garage, rides, community, chat, crash reports and feedback are on our own server in the Netherlands. Our own routing server, the round-trip planner and the navigation voice Alex also run there.
  • Dapper Mate voice, live positions during a group ride and the wake-up service for Mate run through our own voice server (LiveKit) on a server at TransIP in the Netherlands. We manage it ourselves. Voice is not recorded there.
  • Routes are calculated by our own routing server in the Netherlands. The app only calls that server. If that fails, during an outage or for a route far abroad, our server requests the route from the public routing server of FOSSGIS in Germany, and then from OSRM. They see the IP address of our server and the points of the route, not your IP address.

Parties working for us

  • Cloudflare provides the secure connection between the app and our server. All traffic with our server passes through it, encrypted.
  • remote-backups.com keeps an encrypted copy of our server in Germany. We encrypt that copy beforehand; they cannot look into it.
  • Railway hosts our webshop (Medusa) and our own Umami installation for usage data. Umami is cookieless, builds no profiles and is not an advertising service.
  • Mollie for payments in the shop: order and payment details.
  • Brevo for sending email: confirmation codes, password resets and invitations by email. Brevo sees the address and the content of that email.
  • Telegram is used for internal notifications to our team. These contain: the name of a new rider at registration, your feedback message with your name and the app version (with a secure link to your screenshot that expires after seven days), the type and screen of a new crash report without personal data, and for an abuse report the account numbers, the reason and the reporter's explanation. Otherwise only counts.
  • Linear, our task board. From a report of a bug or idea we automatically create a ticket there: your message and the technical context from chapter 2, such as the name of your headset and recent diagnostic lines (which may contain internal account numbers). Your account name, email address and screenshot are not included. If your headset is named after you (for example "Kees's AirPods"), that name does end up in the ticket.
  • Apple Push Notification service: on iPhone our server wakes your device through Apple when someone talks in your Mate channel. Apple sees the device code, the first name of the person talking and a technical channel code.

Services the app calls directly

These parties see your IP address and only what is listed below. That is part of every map app, but you should know it.

  • Stadia Maps provides the map and address search, through their European servers (tiles-eu and api-eu). Stadia sees your IP address and which map area you are viewing. When searching also your search text and a rough position (rounded to about 1 km), so nearby results come first. After a ride the app looks up the place names of start and end, for the name of the ride; those points are sent rounded to about 100 metres. For the elevation profile of a planned route the app sends at most 200 points of that route. Stadia gets no account, name or email address of yours and does not store these requests for us.
  • Photon by Komoot only if Stadia Maps does not respond when searching. Photon then sees your search text and the same rough position.
  • PDOK (the Dutch government) and Zippopotam.us look up street and town from your postcode, for the delivery address in the shop and when setting your home area. They see the postcode and house number.
  • Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons: if you open a point of interest on the way, the app fetches a short description and photo from there. Sometimes OpenStreetMap links a photo on another website for that place; it is then loaded from that website.
  • Google Fonts: on first start the app fetches the fonts from Google and then keeps them on your device.

Sources without data about you

Traffic information comes from NDW (the Dutch National Road Traffic Data Portal) and for other countries from TomTom. Points of interest and fuel stations come from OpenStreetMap. Our server fetches this itself; these parties get no data about you, at most the map area of our server.

Other users

You only share with other users what you make visible yourself (profile, motorcycles, routes, your first name in a Mate channel), what you write in a chat, plus your live position if you take part in a shared group ride. Other riders never see your email address, number plate, VIN, mileage or ride tracks.

5. Outside the European Union

Some of these parties are outside the European Economic Area, among others in the United States (for example Cloudflare, Railway, Linear, Apple, Google and Stadia Maps). The map and address search of Stadia Maps run through their servers in the European Union, but Stadia Maps, Inc. is an American company and can access them from the United States. Transfers only take place with the safeguards the GDPR requires, such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the standard contractual clauses of the European Commission. If you want to know which safeguard applies to which party, email info@dappermotor.com.

6. How long we keep data

  • Account details, garage and rides: until you delete your account.
  • Invoice and order details: 7 years (legal retention obligation).
  • Invitations to ride together: an open invitation expires after 14 days. Declined, expired or withdrawn: deleted 90 days later.
  • Chat with an invitation: as long as you are each other's contacts. If either of you ends the contact or blocks the other, the conversation is deleted immediately. An old conversation without contact is deleted one year after the last message.
  • Planned rides: 60 days after the date of the ride.
  • Invitations by email: the fingerprint and hint for 30 days. We keep an unsubscribe permanently, also only as a fingerprint, so you really never get another invitation.
  • Mate channels: archived after 90 days without activity. We do not store voice and live positions at all.
  • Confirmation codes: valid for 30 minutes, password reset codes for 15 minutes.
  • Blocks: until the person who blocked lifts them.
  • Abuse reports and the saved chat excerpt: at most 24 months, also after account deletion, but then without any link to your deleted account.
  • Feedback: we delete the screenshot after 12 months, and immediately when you delete your account. We keep the text after account deletion without any link to your account.
  • Crash reports: kept until the bug is fixed, and after that as long as we want to be able to see whether it comes back. The link to your account disappears as soon as you delete your account.
  • Usage data: as aggregated counts, not traceable to a person.
  • Backups of our server: made every night. One copy is kept by us in the Netherlands and is deleted after 7 days. An encrypted copy is kept at remote-backups.com in Germany for at most 4 months. What you delete also disappears from those backups afterwards, at the latest after 4 months.

7. Your rights

In the app you arrange most things yourself: export all your data as JSON (Account > Export my data) and delete your account permanently (Account > Delete account). If you no longer have the app, you can also request deletion by email; see delete your account. You also have the right of access, rectification, erasure, objection and restriction; email info@dappermotor.com for that. If you were suspended automatically (see chapter 3), you can ask at the same address for a person to review your case. You can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Two things are deliberately left out of your export: who has blocked you and reports about you. They would put the safety of another rider at risk.

8. Security

All connections are encrypted (HTTPS/WSS), passwords are stored hashed and login is protected against brute force. Access to a voice channel runs through a short-lived token that expires after half an hour. The token the app itself logs in with expires after at most 180 days, and immediately when you log out or delete your account. The servers are under our own management in the Netherlands, with daily backups in the Netherlands and an encrypted copy in Germany.

9. Changes

We may change this policy, for example for new features. We will inform you in the app about important changes.
