How you put a Dapper Motor to work is up to you. Every route pays off.

Promotion

A rolling business card

Wherever you park, heads turn. A handbuilt café racer carrying your company name sticks longer than any ad.

02
Display

Eye-catcher in your window

Place it in your showroom, your shop or at a trade fair. A unique machine as a silent salesperson telling your brand story.

03
Commute

Business commuting

No traffic, no parking stress. Every kilometre to work is business and deductible, on a motorcycle you actually look forward to.

N°02 The tax benefits

Smartly put on the business

Putting a motorcycle on the business is surprisingly favourable (Dutch tax rules). The main items at a glance.

Deductible purchase

Business use makes the investment deductible from your profit. At a high tax rate that lowers the real cost considerably.

Fuel and maintenance

Fuel, maintenance, tyres and insurance booked to the business are deductible costs. We keep the full maintenance history.

Margin scheme: no VAT on the bike

The motorcycles are usually sold under the margin scheme, so there is no VAT on the bike itself. VAT is only reclaimable on accessories, upgrades and maintenance.

No road tax

Most donors are old enough to fall under the classic-vehicle scheme, which often means no or strongly reduced road tax.

Minimal insurance

Classic motorcycles with limited use are cheap to insure. Yearly costs stay low.

Buy-back guarantee

Under conditions Dapper Motor buys the machine back. Your investment retains value, no unknown residual.

N°03 Worked example

What does it really cost?

An indication of your net cost after tax deduction. Note: the motorcycle is a margin-scheme product, so there is no VAT on it. You only reclaim VAT on accessories and upgrades. A €15,000 motorcycle still works out far cheaper for an entrepreneur on a 42% rate.

Cost per kilometre and total cost of ownership of a custom motorcycle

The motorcycle falls under the margin scheme: no VAT, so nothing to reclaim on the bike itself. VAT is only reclaimed on accessories and upgrades.

VAT back (accessories)€ 0
Tax benefit (42%)€ 6.300
Approx. net cost€ 8.700from € 15.000

Indicative example, not tax advice. The real benefit depends on your legal form, the share of business use and your personal situation. Confirm with your accountant.

N°06 Frequently asked questions

Business riding, briefly explained

Is there a taxable benefit-in-kind on a business motorcycle?

No. Unlike a car, a motorcycle in the Netherlands has no benefit-in-kind addition for private use. So you pay no addition over the catalogue value.

Can I reclaim the VAT on a custom motorcycle?

Often not on the bike itself, because a custom frequently falls under the margin scheme, which carries no VAT. On new parts, accessories and gear with VAT, you can reclaim the VAT for the business portion.

How much cheaper is a motorcycle than a car?

On fuel a motorcycle is often two to three times as economical, plus lower road tax, insurance and maintenance. Over a year the difference adds up considerably.

Which costs are deductible?

For the business portion, the purchase (via depreciation and possibly investment deduction), maintenance, insurance, storage and fuel are generally deductible. Keep your invoices.

Does a custom motorcycle hold its value?

A well-built, documented custom often holds its value remarkably well. With a buy-back guarantee the residual value becomes predictable too.

Which legal form do I need?

The main advantages apply broadly, whether you are a sole trader, a BV or another form. Only the bookkeeping differs. A motorcycle is rarely a reason to change your legal form.

Do you give tax advice?

No. This is general information, not tax advice. Tax rules change and your situation is unique. Always confirm your choices with your own accountant or tax adviser.
